Sustainable Styled Shoot

Most of you know that I am not a huge fan of stylized wedding shoots, mainly because I don’t want brides to think that the images from the shoot show a real wedding and surpass the value of their own love story. But all year I’ve had this itch to create something inspiring that tells a story and that would raise awareness in the Chattanooga area that there are some unconventional vendors here that can create breathtaking weddings that are not only budget friendly, but locally sourced, small business supporting, eco-friendly, sustainable, up-cycled, re-purposed and clean for the environment and personal health.

Back in July, I met with the lovely ladies of Mia & May Events to pitch my idea because there was no way I could tackle the logistics on my own. Being that this was my very first styled shoot, I wanted to make sure that it was seamless, professional and benefited each vendor involved. We hit it off so well and I just knew that we would be a great fit for the project! So the planning commenced and we reached out to the vendors and were so fortunate to have Ocoee Crest host us for the shoot. The Rawls family have put their heart and soul into such a naturally breathtaking venue and I love that they harvested raw materials from the property to utilize in building the venue. Here are some details about each amazing vendors that collaborated with us!

Noelle & Timothy are superstars for traveling all the way from New York! I honestly didn’t realize they lived so far away when I reached out to them but they were so excited to participate because their wedding anniversary was right after the shoot. So these are technically their anniversary pictures, so sweet!

We partnered with Creekside Flower Farm, a local and sustainable flower farm with a huge variety of unique and lovely blooms. Morgan used a gorgeous selection of warm tones as well as real feathers and greenery in her pieces. She made a bouquet, boutonnière, a table swag and added some extra blooms to each scene as accents.

The Cupcake Club also agreed to share the love with us by providing a scrumptious variety of cupcakes, matcha creme cake, french macarons, mini donuts, beignets, madeleines, and artisan bread! All of which were free of soy, peanuts, gluten, preservatives and artificial ingredients. I may or may not have some home with me…

Bleu Fox Cheese Shop was so gracious to craft a seasonal summer cheese plate complete with fresh melon, artisan meats, assorted nuts and dried fruits as well on a vintage tray provided by The Copper Quail. It was the perfect element to our table scene.

The ladies of The Copper Quail curated a stunning collection of vintage furniture for the lounge scene, tablescape as well as the arbor and picnic scenes. They utilized boho style rugs, brass candlesticks, metallic accents, plush pillows as well as their signature vintage goblets. I am always blown away by their creativity and out-of-the-box pairings with old and new items.

White Table Specialty Linens added the finishing touches to the tables and picnic with their tableware and linens including a gorgeous organically textured cheesecloth as well as gold flatware paired with mix-matched plates.

Robyn Grant Calligraphy brought everything to a new level with her hand-written stationery suite, welcome sign and placement card designs. Her work was displayed on handmade small batch paper by ShadowBox Paperie as well as a vintage mirror sign by The Copper Quail. I was amazed to watch her steady hand as she put the finishing touches on her pieces!

Sara, owner of Odyssey Goods hand picked a selection of vintage dresses and accessories for our amazing models to wear for each scene. I loved watching her pick and pair the colors, textures and look of each outfit. Her selections included a latin-inspired striped dress, a beautiful white flowy gown with embroidery as well a kimono inspired piece and a long sleeved wrap made with vintage neck ties! She paired each outfit with fun vintage shoes and jewelry.

Gabriella, owner of Lived in Makeup, worked her magic on Timothy and Noelle with her makeup designs and hair stylings for each look. She incorporated unique floral pieces in to her hair designs and used dewy peach tones to compliment the warm tones of the decor. I love that she customizes the looks based on facial structure, skin tone and style while being mindful of the products she uses.

Mary Kate, owner of Mother Macramei, loaned us her jaw dropping and handmade arbor piece as well as a bouquet wrap, handmade earrings and a unique custom dream catcher style bouquet alternative with soft toned ribbon and beading. Her pieces added the perfect amount of texture to each scene.

Last but certainly not least, Rone Regency Jewelers were so gracious to loan us some custom gold statement rings with stackable bands featuring blue accent stones as well as a dazzling yellow diamond. Their pieces are a great example of how many couples are creating custom recycled gold wedding sets that truly make a statement and are set apart.

We created four vignettes including a lounge area, a ceremony arbor, a reception tablescape and an elopement style riverside picnic where we showcased different arrangements of our vendor offerings. We repurposed about 90 percent of the decor from each vignette and utilized it in different ways to show how repurposing items can be fun, creative and ingenuitive. The best part about the shoot is that we didn’t throw away anything! The floral pieces are biodegradable, the decor is reusable, the food was delicious so that didn’t go to waste either ;) All of the macramé pieces are rentals as well as the furniture. The clothing is vintage and can be re-worn and repurposed into more casual outfits for everyday wear!

My goal for this shoot is to showcase some of the best and most unique wedding fare that Chattanooga has to offer. I want brides and grooms to see that they don’t have to compromise their health, care for the environment or even their wallets to achieve a breathtaking wedding experience that is completely unique to them. For the couples that want to tell a story, that love vintage, local, sustainable and healthy, let this inspiration be for you!

Here is a HUGE thank you to all the vendors for really showing up and making this wild idea come to life!
